About TranscribeVid
TranscribeVid turns video and audio into accurate, timestamped text for free. There is no sign-up, no sign-in and no watermark: open the page, choose a file and read your transcript.
Who builds it
TranscribeVid is built and run by Advaith Bibhishan Sonne, an independent software developer based in Bengaluru, India. I built it to give people the best possible transcription experience: seamless from the first click, with no account to create, and a clean interface that stays out of the way.
Why it exists
Most transcription websites ask you to create an account, limit the free minutes, add watermarks or push a subscription before you see a single line of text. TranscribeVid does the opposite. Everything it offers is available to everyone, and the page asks for nothing but your file.
How it works
The speech recognition runs inside your own browser, using open speech recognition models such as OpenAI Whisper. Your browser downloads the model once and keeps it, then does all the work on your device. Your video or audio is never uploaded to us, which is also why there is no file size limit and no queue of other people's files. The How it works page explains each step.
What you can do with it
- Transcribe videos, audio files and voice recordings in more than 50 languages, or let the language be detected for you.
- Record straight from your microphone and turn it into text.
- Read the transcript with timestamps, see which words the model was unsure of, and correct them in place.
- Download the result as plain text, SRT or VTT subtitles, Markdown or JSON.
- Choose between faster and more accurate models, depending on your device and how much time you have.
How it stays free
TranscribeVid is funded by ads shown on its information pages and beside finished transcripts (Google AdSense). Because your own device does the transcription, there is no server cost for each file, and that is what keeps the service free and unlimited. The Privacy policy explains what the ads use and how to choose your settings.
